Plastic and Tribological Properties of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) under Conditions of High Pressure and Shear

چکیده
We investigate experimentally the behavior of a thin sheet of polytetrafluoroethylene between a steel plate and a cylindrical steel indenter under combined action of high normal force and torsion. Under these actions, the polytetrafluoroethylene layer is partially squeezed out of the contact area. The thickness of the remaining layer is studied as function of the applied normal force, the torsion angle, and the radius of the indenter. We suggest a simple semiempirical material model which describes both the process of squeezing out of the layer and the force of friction produced by the layer.

In this research, Zn-Ni and Zn-Ni/PTFE coatings were electrodeposited from sulfate-based electrolytes. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques were used to investigate the corrosion properties of the coatings. Hardness and tribological behavior of the coatings were examined by the Vickers microhardness testing machine and the pin-on-disc method...

The friction and wear properties of polyamide 66 (PA66), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sliding against hemselves under dry sliding and oil-lubricated conditions were studied by using a pin-on-disc tribometer. The effect of applied load and sliding peed on tribological behaviors of the polymer–polymer sliding combinations under dry sliding and oil-lubricated cond...
متن کاملPhysical and tribological properties of the modified PTFE nanopowder filled EPDM
INTRODUCTION Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a highly crystalline polymer with melting temperature around 330°C, possesses unique properties. Chemically inert, it has high chemical and heat resistance with upper service temperature around 260°C. Since its invention it has found limited applications especially as an additive because of its high molecular weight and inert surface. However, by mid...

متن کاملImproved wear resistance in alumina-PTFE nanocomposites with irregular shaped nanoparticles
Past studies with PTFE nanocomposites showed up to 600× improvements in wear resistance over unfilled PTFE with the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles. Irregular shaped nanoparticles are used in this study to increase the mechanical entanglement of PTFE fibrils with the filler. The tribological properties of 1, 2, 5 and 10 wt.% filled samples are evaluated under a normal pressure and sliding speed...
